The picture below shows a V4(1200cc) engine for Honda's VFR sport touring motorcycle.

Now it's official. Honda released details about the new "dual clutch" transmission in the upcoming VFR model. The fully-automatic design uses a six-speed gearbox connected to twin computer-controlled clutches. One clutch works the odd-numbered gears, the other the even-numbered ones. The hydraulically-actuated clutches work in tandem, smoothing out transitions between the gears. The lack of a CVT mechanism or hydraulic pumps like those found in the Foreman ATV-derived transmission means a lightweight, relatively simple design that functions much like a manual transmission. In fact, Honda promises "fuel economy equal to or better than that of a fully manual transmission."

A technological marvel that also features the ability to run on two, three or four cylinders depending on performance/economy needs.
Could this sideways mounted V4 HONDA design soon be "THE NEXT KILLER IN THE WOODS" and leave grandma's 850 inline Polaris sucking dust

It looks like a Rancher 420 engine on steroids! I think this engine below is a sign of things to come for Honda's ATV's.

Just settle down now and get the sheriff on the phone, tell him there's a "KILLER LURKING IN THE WOODS"!
Nuck.

Garman took the words right out of my mouth! I don't see Honda going for the most powerful machine in the woods. Too much liability.

Now with that said, we all know how you like to break down the barriers. Take my advise!
1. Tomorrow is Monday - Sober Up!
2. Stop your planning now! When this engine is released on a street bike, it won't be but a week or two until these show up in the salvage yard wrapped in a twisted pile of frame works. Do not knock anybody off their bike!
3. Your girlfriend will be your ex-girlfriend if you drag that pile of parts into the garage for an engine swap!
4. If you ignore my warnings, call me up - I wanna be the first one to ride it!

Hey Honda and semi-Honda Fans,

Sometimes isn't it nice just to make others choke from the smoke of your pipe dream?

Hey it just goes to show you what Honda could do "if they only wanted to".

An engine like this would probably show up in a Big Red UTV if anything Honda. Surely though the dual clutch design has taken well to Honda's future and I believe we'll see this in more than just the Rancher when it comes to future Quads.

My predictions for 2010, Unit505 will be a full time Honda fan if an engine like this hits the trails, also garmin and BNWELD will test ride each other's quad through the forest and agree life is good(while each rider quitely envies the other's quad).

Lurking in a woods near you and loaded on rootbeer, Nuck.

I was out and about today and thought about pulling in the local honda dealer. I saw that big, ugly beast they call the Big Red sitting out front and it just turned me off. They really need to park those thing out back of the dealership. It's so ugly that a 4 cylinder wouldn't make it look good.

If anybody goes for a 4 banger, my money is on Arctic Cat. Those guys seem to have no fear in building a big machine. What happened to Honda and the days of the real Big Red ATC and the Honda Odyssey? I never had so much fun rolling over the Odyssey ON PURPOSE! What a blast.

Here's an idea. Tell Honda to throw out the rule book and drop the 4 banger in the old Odyssey.

Unit505 and Garman,

The long awaited Big Red by farmers or landscapers maybe, but surely not the OHV enthusiast. Honda's B.R. just lacks visual appeal for starters and at 1400 plus pounds with a 675cc engine...hmmm, it just not for me.

Honda's Odyssey(250cc pictured above) was a fun ride, belt yourself in and get ready to be beaten to death, that is if you were strong enough to pull start it(as a young teen I remember if difficult to pull start it in the winter). I use to spin that Odyssey around in the snow(when it use to snow)here in the Philly area. Such a fun machine.

Later models had suspension, bigger engines and the cost increased and the Odyssey seemed to fade away. Was the Honda Odyssey "Kill of the Hill" in it's day? Did it have any competitors??? With that being said, I'd think twice before using the word "never" when it comes to Honda.

I think the ATV market(ATV maker)is driven by demand, cost to create and return on investment(ROI). My feelings are because of so much competition profits are limited thus Honda is slow to make changes if the ROI is not right.

It seems like this new "dual clutch" design is an affordable one and that could be just what Honda needs to climb back to the "King of the Hill".

Nuck.

I've had several Hondas and they are good bikes, they last a very long time mainly because they don't have the power to brake anything. If they are thinking of putting horsepower in anything, they need to beef things up quite a bit.
