I just got a 1995 Big Bear today.I already have a KQ ,and got the Bear for relitives etc.Are the old Bears good ?It has shaft 4x4 all the time?and is air cooled with a oil cooler up front ?I plan on changing all fluids etc, and maybe all I'll need is some mud lites and some wheel spacers? do the parts from newer years fit ? thanx for any feedback you can supply.

I've got an 2001 Big Bear and I put the 2X4 converter on it. This allows me to run it in 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive. It's a lot easier to steer and give it a bit more power only pushing the 2 wheels. I'm thinking of putting 26 inch tires on because it is geared so low it shouldn't have any problems turning them. They are a good bike and one that you don't need to worry about to much letting the relatives ride.

This is a great little bike that just doesn't stop. I actually prefer this bike when I go on longer outtings. It has all the power you need for both the swamp and steep rocky country. It is great on fuel which means you have to carry less then you do for the bigger bikes. The low range with engine braking is also great on steep terrain. I have 26" mudlites which work decent enough even without the spacers. We have installed mud flaps on all of our bikes to help keep the mud out of the trailer and other enthusiasts behind you appreciate this as well.
Parts from 92 through to 96 are generic to this bike with the exception being racks. Some parts of the older and newer versions work but check it out on line prior to committing yourself. I have recently replaced the rearend complete with the rearend off a 400 Grizzly, with no problems. Some parts from the Grizzly and Wolverine bolt up quite well.
I hope some of this helps out and I wouldn't hesitate to put a family member on this particular bike.

I had a '98 Big Bear. No selectable 4WD so the your in 4WD all the time. I added a speedometer to it. With a tailwind you could hit 45mph. It was very, very reliable and I never had a problem with it. The solid rear axle kind of beat you to death though.
