New Fuel Pack From Kolpin

by RENO, 2007-07-23

New design fuel pack from Kolpin

The old style held 3.8 gallons and the new style holds 4.0 gallons. My fuel packs after they have swollen fron the heat now hold 4.9 gallons. When I go to the gas station to fill them up, most times people ask what they are for? These have never leaked on me and work great, little high on $$$ for a plastic fuel tank, but they are made very well and will take a lot of abuse.

Wal-Mart now is stocking these new Fuel Packs thru their web site. $69.98

Kolpin's new fuel pack has been redesigned to safely and conveniently hold up to four gallons of fuel and attach to any ATV. High density polyethylene makes it the toughest fuel container available. Plus, sturdy construction allows you to store additional gear on top of it.

Kolpin ATV Fuel Pack:
  • 4 gallon capacity
  • Fits flat on all ATV racks or mounts with two ATV pack brackets (#89475)
  • Molded handle for easy transporting and filling
  • Includes self-venting spout

I definately like the new design better than the old, my old style works but kind of a pain to use.

    Triple J,

As you can see it has a built in vent too, aways concerned of knocking off the breather valve in thick brush on the old one. And the carrying handle in the center is a plus feature too

Can the spout be stored inside or is it always sticking out?

Yeah I definitely like the looks of that design better, although I haven't had any problems with the old one.

I have the new 4 gallon fuel pack also. Mine leaks though around the cap all the time. its a pain to put the cap back on with the nosel going in the hole. I find by tapping on the top while putting the cap on helps so you can tighten it all the way. For the price of it they sure went cheap with the fuel cap. I love everything about it except the fuel cap leaking.

That's not good news about leaking. I know many that have the old style and none of them leak.

I know the self venting is not that great in my book, never had much luck with them. I'm guessing with the self venting it will take at least twice as long to dump the load into the tank.
Does anyone know if you can get that same style in the water pack?

The self venting crap gas cans I bought from WalMart all leaked. I think it's some kind of safety issue being shoved down our throats.
Thank you government for watching my ass. I'm such a dip I can't poor gas correctly.

Im hoping to find a new cap that will fit for it that wont leak. They cant sell them in many states because of this. They leak, i think, because of the build up of preasure in the can and it forces it out of the cap. That is what you call self venting!

I have in the past replaced the old style Koplin fuel filler assy with Brigs and Stratton brand of gas cans filler assy. And I'm not talking about lawn mower fuel tanks. In fact they are the exact same style and o-rings. Info

Most fuel cans are now self venting and leak, this is another perfect example of government safety standards in action. All I can suggest is keep your eye open for fuel containers at yard sales for the old style.

I have the old style as well, I've never had a problem with it yet, but that vent sticking out has always scared me. I've never had a problem handling the old one either, the slots work good to slip you hands in. Looking at this new one though, I like the looks of it more, other then those "self venting" spouts, they don't work as good, but they are more conveniant, less caps to break or lose.

Most of all, that price too at Wall mart, you can't go wrong The old ones are usually near $100

A little trick that I learned from my gardner. Take a plastic grocery bag, fold it up and wrap it around the threads where the cap screws on. Put the cap on over it and tighten up gently. Presto magico, no more leaks. For the anal among us, use a scissors to trim the outside edges of the plastic bag. Works great on all the old plastic gas cans around the garage too.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in for a possible mounting location for the smaller Kolpin fuel packs. This location works great for the Outlander 800 "XT", but may not work for other machines. Here's the concept, hopefully you can make it work for your machine. Great way to mount the smaller Kolpin gas cans on the "XT" without taking up any valuable real estate on your racks. I decided to turn the mount upside down and couldn't believe how well it fit. I used all of the hardware supplied with the mounts, just replaced the plastic two hole clamps with metal ones. Here are some pics...

Another Pic... I should be able to mount other accessories on the top of the Fuel Pack mount.

    Hi suef,

How much fuel is in both of those fuel packs? That is a good set up.

They hold like 1.25 Gallons each, but I believe the new style will hold a little more.
