Pro Fill Write up and Review

by Triple J, 2009-01-03

I installed a neat new product called the Pro Fill filter on my King Quad. Profill-Autstralia filters generally take 2 weeks to get but can take up to 3 weeks as you are at the mercy of the post office.

Here is what you recieve:

Below is a closeup of filter showing the white mesh installed. Here is what Pro Fill says about the mesh

"the inner white mesh is optional. But it is put there to push out the inner layer of filter cloth out as wide as possible. Helping fuel flow all the way to the bottom.

This is most handy for people who have a non vented fuel tank and go to a fuel station and use a fuel nozzle. People who use a fuel drum and pour fuel in with a spout or funnel is normaly not affected.
"

Another photo (below) show it installed. I did need to take a box end wrench to push it down all the way as the filter materials is very flexible but this is only needed when installing it and it was also only about 20 degrees in the shed. This may not be necessary in a warmer climate.

I filled the gas tank using this gas can.

I couldn't dump it full speed (can't without Pro Fill installed either), but I'd say it filled just about as fast as not having the filter installed.

Gas cap screws back on just like normal and still clicks.

I'm very impressed with the quality of the product and they are great to communicate with. I'll be ordering one for the wifes Grizzly 700 also. I know a member with a Brute Force sent him dimensions for their machine as Pro Fill wasn't currently making one for the BF and they are making them now. I also just emailed them dimensions for my 08 Prowler 650XT so they could see about making a filter for it. If they don't list one for your ride contact them about making one.

With all these machines going to electric fuel pumps in the tanks and an approximate cost of $300-$400.00 for a replacement pump this is a very inexpensive and wise investment.

You can find a link to them on the top of the page as they are also a Nyroc Sponsor. Check them out and give them our support as well.

I just checked on his store and the Brute Force is the same as the King Quad - I emailed him a week ago letting him know that but he never got back to me. Long story longer - I originally had a friend with a Brute get me dimensions for the tank while mine was in the shop getting the fuel pump replaced (cuz of DIRT in the tank) He gave me dimensions with the baffle in so the filter Profill sent ended up being way too small.
The Brute and King dimensions are EXACTLY the same - I can even swap the caps between em

Anyway- so far so good - the only problem I had the first fill was an overfill as you can't hear or see the level in the tank as it's at the top

One more thing to note: Profill gives an awesome discount if you can get 6 or more on order at a time --- give your buddies a call

Nice job JJJ! I emailed them to see if they could come up with one for the Can Ams. Looks like a great product. Easier to use than the funnel.

Why would filling be any different than stock as far as seeing the level? Does the fuel not flow quickly though the material?

As far as fuel flow - I had a Mr. Funnel I was also using that I was keeping about 1/2 full during the fill...(no I dont' want ANY dirt in my tank)I did get gas to come out of the top when the tank was not full...so yes I would say it slows it down a little but nothing I can't get used to. My fault on the overfill - I thought it needed a lot more than it did and just didn't check it. There's a form on Profills website on what dimensions he would need you to get him if he doens't have access to a Can Am --or shoot him an email and he'll send you the pdf. Great guy to work with

Topgun,
The mesh slows down the fuel flow some but not bad. When filling without you can see the fuel level easier as the gas can nozzle doesn't cover the entire hole, with the Pro Fill filter you can only see the level that is coming up in the filter itself. Just takes some getting used to.

I have and have used a Mr Funnel and have found debris in the bottom after filling at a gas station so this will give me double protection. I'll fill the cans with the Mr Funnel and then have this protection for filling out of the can when there is mud covering the machine. Plus I'll have protection now when I'm on the trail getting gas as well.

They are great to work with and are eager to help anyway they can.

Just ordered mine today, YIKES!!! $24.00 (with shipping) -- currency exchange on $24.00 canadian is $29.13 .. Glad it was only a small purchase....
I'm sure it will be well worth it just for the piece of mind that most dirt will not get by....

Well my PRO FILL came in today for the BRUTE,removed inner white tube [baffle] from tank and dropped the PRO FILL into place used 3/8 extension to push mesh into tank, presto simple as that and didn't spill my come home from a crappy-day -beverage,seeing it is a mere -19 below I think I will test drive it later to see if it seals good, don't see why it would'nt,shipping didn't take to long seeing it was coming from Mars.

How are these holding up after a time? I just read that they have one for my machine but it says "Life of filter? More than 1 year." What's up with that? I'd hate for it to fall apart after a couple of years and get crap all though the tank.

Received mine a couple of weeks ago at the reduced $19 price plus shipping. It has pieces of rolled mesh inside, look like fat cigarette tubes, assume they are to help hold it open. I didn't realize that you had to take the baffle out of the tank on the Brute Force. Wonder if the gas will slosh up in the tank enuf to leak around the gas cap?

About stuff getting into the tank, I noticed on the King Quad forum, guys were putting various filters on the open to atmosphere tube for the fuel tank vent, to keep dust from getting sucked in. Not sure the vent on the BF is the same, but must be similar. Has anyone done this on their Brute?

Topgun, they hold up great. I've had one since they were available. I removed the extra mesh since it seemed to get in the way more than help. I might try it again since I can't fill up at the station when needed. The flow is great when using a can but the station pumps froth too much and the fuel rushes back up and out the filler unless you baby it.

BN, I noticed Profill's banner link was not working and sent a PM to Nyroc. He said it was a bear to fix but looks like he did it.

I was looking at this product a month ago or so? I usually fill up via a 12V transfer pump off a slip tank with a filter inline. Of course that inline filter does nothing for dirt, pollen, bugs, packer fans, and very small birds from getting into the tank. My question is; Do any of you guys think that, a 12V powered fuel pump will like the restrictive nature of the filter? Or will the fuel just come back at me, and make grass fertilizer?

Thank, CPT

Is the slip tank a big tank? How do you control moisture? Does it pull off the bottom where the water is? I don't have a Pro Fill but I think it would be too much.

The slip tank is ~130 gallon, the stinger sits 2 inches off the bottom, and I use methyl hydrate to deal with moisture. I use a gallon of methyl hydrate for a full tank of fuel.

I've filled at the gas station before and it took it, you can't run wide open though.

If it doesn't pump to fast it will take it just fine.
