This could be a great event for local NYROC members to meet up, it's still a few months away so plans could be made. I'm hoping to make it myself.

Check it out for yourself:

It should have something on their site about out of state riders, but i think it would just depend on if your state has you register them or not. When i was there, they took everyones registration, but we were all from Pa.Insurance wasn't necessary,at least then it wasn't,i didn't have it at the time and didn't have any problems.

I called for pricing the RRR event, $50 for one day and $69 for three day pass, all ticket are all-inclusive.

I'll go to Snow Shoe Rails to Trails the first weekend of October instead for the pig roast and ride there, for $11 a year ss/rt just can't be beat!

P.S.
SS/RT and Bloody Skillet connector update: Because of the recent PA state budget problems the connector work scheduled to be completed by this fall has been stopped or put on hold until the spring of 2010. It's on the top of their list because it brings in revenue.

Ludwig's sandwich(owner)shop said he believe the exisiting roads are now open to legal ATV traffic and (just those roads needed to connect SSRT and Bloody Skillet).

Nuck

EDIT, 08/24/09: I drove 75 miles(if I wanted an even longer ride I could have left from Black Bear trail head below Gillentown, 20 miles tacked onto the round trip)round trip, starting at SS/RTA, Gillentown, PA parking lot to Kato-Orviston road then onto Bloody Skillet and back. The point I turned(left)off Kato Road was 19.7 miles from the center of SS/RTA parking lot. The exact GPS waypoint @ N41 6.624 W77 46.152 turn left off Kato-Orviston Road coming from Snow Shoe, then follow the trail as it bares left, next turn shape right, next turn right and follow the stream down to bridge, then turn left cross over bridge. Once over the bridge turn right and follow the road to bloody skillet parking lot/trail head on right. Stay off Dehaas road it's posted closed to ATV's.

Nuckols07, I live very close to Rock Run and in my opnion it stinks! The trails are too easy, no hillclimbs, they carve a trail thru a rock field and if anybody goes off the trail and rides on the rocks their rent-a-cops throw you out, or if somebody complains that you passed them and thru mud on them you get thrown out, and upon entering the park they check your coolers for beer. I don't drink beer, but I don't like getting searched like a criminal!
next time you come in this area look me up and I will take you for a REAL ride to "BIG MURPH"

Yes I was there last year. This place has more intersections then the entire state of Califronia! Hopefully they updated the maps as they planned. The trails were marked with a with a crazy code like I never seen any where else and then try and match them up with the map they give out and forget it! The map legend was just too small. GPS helps you to make sure you covered all the trails they have.

Locals say years ago it was better because it was free and much larger. I love every place to ride ATVs legally, so I won't knock any place to ride. I would rate it a 7.
I prefer the FREE PA trails the best.

NEW today: And yes I agree with you(I'm sorry it's not better too) especially after riding the 80+ mile loop cnnecting Snow Shoe($11 a year), PA to Bloody Skillet, about 2 weeks ago. It's the best legal trail I known of in PA. I'm going back up on Sat&Sun either Sept 19 or 26 undecided at this point. After September Bloody Skillet closes until December.

"BIG MURPH" Where is that My buddy grew up in Altoona, I'll run it by him.

If you want to ride these trails we can meet.
I have to stop by track-n-trail in state college on Sat then it's off to Snow Shoe trails.
Nuck.

I am not trying to say that I am a better rider than anybody else, its just I have been riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes for a long time and I don't ride over top a vertical cliff dropping out of the air like I'm going to die, then its not exciting to me.
Rock Run offeres no challenges for me, to me its boring just riding around on a flat, level, open trail.
I suggest a much better altenative is either the Madra, or Irvona Poker Runs, and you can ride year around in the same area where they have the Irvona Poker Runs, its not that far from Rock Run.
At Big Murph you are trasspassing and you have to be prepared to take action to escape when the cops show up, you need a local guy as a guide to save you if you do go there. There are 3 hill climbs, Big Murph, Little Murph, and Dirty Harry, and there's the Devils Playground thats like a motocross track with whoop-t-doo's where you can get some serious air, theres mud, rocks, swimming, whatever you want!

Yes, We got there Friday morning, stayed until Saturday afternoon. Rock Run in my opinion was great. There was no mud though . We did 90 miles within the 2 days. I would suggest Rock Run to anyone who wants a good days riding. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Planning to go back soon.

NEW from Nuck: Opinions vary.

I didn't mean to step on anybody's toes, its just I am a local guy that lives close to Rock Run, and the state spent millions of dollars of our hard earned tax money on it, its not that I have to pay $18 to ride there, its just the people in charge of that park showing too many restrictions and treating every local like dirt.
yes, they LOVE you guys from out of the area, but they hate us locals.
My daddy always told me "A thief thinks everybody else is a thief, so they think its OK to steal" The same saying applies to the people that work at Rock Run, the drunks and druggies in charge think every local is a drunk or a druggie, so they assume you have a cooler full of beer and are only there to cause trouble!
This park is being promoted everywhere except here, I hope you guys have fun there.
