Update 2-14-10

3rd annual Arizona Camp/Ride! February 18th – 21st 2010

Well, AZ Camp/Ride is a few days away..I can’t wait! Some notes & updates are below…

-----------------REMINDER--------------------

This is not an organized event! There is not a crew watching out for your safety. This is just a bunch of folks getting together that like to ride & camp.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Some of the rides do tend to be on the difficult to extreme side . That being said, we don't want anyone getting hurt either. If there is something that you don't feel comfortable doing, then DON'T do it or ASK FOR HELP!. Nobody will give you a hard time about this. Please don't be a hero or feel pressured into doing something you're not sure about doing!!! We want everyone safe!
---------------------------------------------

Although posted as Thursday 2-18 start date, many of us will be there on Tuesday or Wednesday so will probably start playing sooner, so come on out Tuesday or Wednesday if you want.

We have a few new trails that we have discovered lately to share with all and we are ready to go!! Regarding the rides…we usually start out at 8am. On Wed, Thursday & Friday, we usually do ½ day rides. (back to camp for lunch & then head back out to ride) So if you come in mid morning on Thurs or Fri, you can catch an afternoon ride. Saturday, we have an all day spectacularly scenic ride planned, followed by the pig feast & music.

Bring firewood! Buy a few bundles of wood at the local Circle-K, tear up your porch deck, etc ...BRING FIREWOOD!!!!!!. BRING FIREWOOD!!!!!!!! BRING FIREWOOD!!!!!

Keeping with tradition of the last two years, we’ll roast a pig on Saturday night to celebrate another fun get together. While we will be riding all day, the pig will be roasting in a pit all day. This year Toad (Jim) has bought a 80 lb pig for Saturday night. Give Toad a big THANK YOU when you see him. Everyone brings a side dish to compliment the pig.

Due to the overwhelming (or lack of) response to the sign-up sheet for Saturday nights Pig Roast, the elders have decided to change it around to make life easier. The sign-up food list for Saturday night has been removed. Everyone will still be expected to bring a side dish to compliment to roasted pig, but It will truly be “Pot-Luck”. Veggies, potatoes, salads, etc . are always good!

Following the Pig Feast, a small band will be playing 60s, 70s & 80’s music. We’ll “pass the hat” for donations to help cover the cost of the band. Robert (Loworbit1), will collect any donations toward the band. If any money is in excess of the band cost, Robert will donate it to a local charity.

We will be camping & riding on several sections of land. This means to be legal, you need a state trust land permit. They are $15 for single & $20 for family. The link for this is http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/recreation_permit.htm

The usual February temps are upper 30’s-low40's at night and 70's during the day. Perfect riding temps! We usually don’t get much rain, but at the 1st year’s event, it rained for 2 days so be prepared in case.

If anyone needs directions, please send me a PM.

What am I forgetting? Oh yeah, bring me a beer!!!!

This copied from the AZ Game & Fish web page. They are one of the enforcing agencies in AZ. It is pretty clear...I think?.....

If you are from out-of-state coming into Arizona, you can still operate here as long as you meet all of the following requirements:

You are not a resident of Arizona.
You own the vehicle.
Your vehicle displays current registration or user indicia from your permanent state of residency.
The vehicle is not in Arizona for more than 30 consecutive days.

If you come to Arizona from a state that does not register or title OHVs, you would be requested to get an Arizona title and purchase the OHV decal for legal use in Arizona.

PS: Azquadrider hates staying on the ground all the time

I think you'll be fine. I'd worry more about what kind of trails we are thinking about doing than anything else

I look forward to meeting you. I'll be looking for a head count around December....

I plan on being there, I missed last years camp and ride and I heard it was a blast! I'm going to try to make all four days but if anything i'll be there from the 18th to 20th. This is probably my favorite place to ride in AZ, so many awesome trails condensed in one area. Hackberry creek is one experience I will never forget, as well as the first time I saw the coke ovens in the distance. AZgolfer, do you have a link to last years event pics?

I'll be looking for a somewhat accurate headcount around Dec/early Jan. should be a blast again!!!!!

PS: Dave, those skid plates don't look natural...no gouges, deep grooves, nothing bent or bowed
