Here are the current HP ratings for the Big Bores. The info is from 2008-2009 certifications in CA. Most were in KW so I converted to HP as that is what most of us reference. Seems to be pretty accurate based on the machine reviews with the exception of the Cat. Not sure why it is down on power compared to the King since it is the same engine. Maybe the restrictive airbox setup??
These numbers are measured at the crank, not the rear wheels. If you would put your machine on a dyno, you would get a lower number due to losses from the tranny setup.
HP Ratings from Carb, listed highest to lowest hp.
Polaris 850______69.06 hp
Can Am 800 R____67.05 hp (updated 2/13 to 70.5 hp)
AC 1000_________65.84 hp

My mistake on the Rincon. It was the 680. The info is from 2007 and 2008 so it is new and up to date. The Kawi, the numbers are within tenths so no biggie. Probably runs smoother and starts better with the EFI. As for the Cat, as I mentioned above, maybe the airbox? If you have ever seen the thing, that could be the problem. There are actually 2 boxes connected by a hose. My neighbor has one, seen it first hand.

i really don't believe the king has 48 hp may be at the crank but at the rear wheels it feels like 30hp. may be with the vdi but man my buddy smokes me with his 650 bomb. top end i will hold on but for the first bit i am silly looking.the king is held back from showing what it has to offer. grampee

That's way too big of difference between the KQ and AC, IMO. I'd think it would be more along the lines of what VDI discovered(1-2hp difference, if that)...
48 shouldn't be that hard to get out of the rwhp once the VDI is available . I know if I'm not in the low/mid 50s, I am going to be pretty upset!

Mikeyboyesq, didn't see your thread but a similar one was posted last year in this section also. This was between Reno and myself. Was looking for some 2008 Suzuki info, the Carb site came up, and so I just compiled this chart in the process with the data I collected. I've got copies of the original sheets that the numbers came from in front of me. If you note, my numbers do not match yours exactly, must of used a different convertor , not even the same exact machines. Good job on your thread but I did not copy it. Haven't been to the Praire section for a long time, would never of seen it without mention. It is kinda funny though they appeared so close together. Part of my looking when at Carb was to see how much difference there was between the Brute carb and EFI.
On the Cat, remember, Lyle has run the 700 from the beginning with the airbox modified and not stock. Could be an error on Carb's part but I double checked their numbers several times to be sure I had what was written posted. As for the 48 hp, maybe with your mods, but the average Joe with a pipe, filter, and VDI will not see that at the rear wheels.

on the 48rwhp number, I was going on the fact that with VDI, pipe, and filter should get people into the 41-44 range on the Kings...Throw in the right snorkle setup and/or cams and 48rwhp should be a done deal, .
I find those carb numbers interesting as well...I would say they were incorrect, but the 700 should be 3-5rwhp above the 650H1 as well, which is not far off. So, I just did a little research trying to find a consistent source for the dynonumbers. I looked at HMF's forum, which posts dynosheets for both atvs although HMF's dyno appears low on the HP rating, at least it is consistent.
Kingquad - 27.7rwhp stock to 33.1 with pipe and programmer
Cat700 - 27.4rwhp stock to 30.6 with pipe and programmer
An interesting analysis that definately gives credibility to the king having a far more restrictive stock exhaust...what do you guys think?

The BF 750 might only be ~2hp more than the King, but it stock form it feels more like 10hp difference, hopefully the copperhead will help make 48 horses feel like that much...it's that snappy power from the start that the King lacks..

Topgun,
No problem...I'm sure you'd draw the same conclusion that I did if someone else posted a nearly identical thread within a week of your post! lol
The thing that caught my attention from these peak HP comparisons was that the Can Am 650 had more peak HP than the BF750...I wasn't expecting that since the BF750i should be able to take a Can Am 650 in a drag race (stock vs stock). But of course, Peak HP at the crank is not exactly the best measurement of how fast these quads will go...peak HP is just a tiny snapshot of what the motors produce and doesn't tell the whole story of how it performs. It would be more useful to see a dyno sheet on each motor to see what rpm they make peak HP and how well they hold that power across the powerband. Actually, I'd rather see these numbers at the rear wheels as that has more meaning in the real world.
Happy trails...:)

RichOx,
If you look at the list I put together (see the link that I posted in my first post above), I noted the 2008 BF650sra has 41.4 peak HP.

Dynoed my Grizzly 700 last night and got 45hp on the rear wheels. That is with EXTENSIVE mods.
Fully Open airbox mod,HMF pipe,Dobeck gen2,Wiseco 11:1 high comp piston,Stage 1 Raptor 700 Hotcam,Ported & Polished head,Dalton Clutch kit. On the same dyno a LTR450 with pipe, airbox mods, cherry bomb and dynoed properly got 48hp. REAR WHEEL POWER IS WHAT REAL POWER IS !!! :)
