Engine is almost out, Should be taking it to the engine builder Dec 7th.

Mods are...
Toby at Moto-X-pert doing all engine work
Head work - Port/Polish, Reshape Combustion Chamber, Vavle Job
CP Stock Piston (unless there is damage then I may bore to a small 710cc or so)
Custom Webb Cams
Fuel Injector
Yoshimura Pipe
VDI
Coop Mod (possible)
Airbox Modifications

Mods already done: Yellow EPI Secondary, 20 Gram weights.

Handling: YFZ front Shocks, Frame Guessets, Pro Armor Skids, Z400 Muscle Steering Stabilizer

The main thing I want to accomplish is accleration. My goal is to beat a stock 450 sport quad to 50MPH, and suprise some Big Bore Utility quads.

Suprise! I am currently getting a 450 KQ POD and if I can get some really cheap, I will throw on some KQ450 graphics kit

I will update this thread as I get updates on what else I do.

And since everyone likes pics. here is the only one I have, its way past this stage of the game.

Sounds awesome, can't wait to see how it comes out.

You should try the Coop mod for a stronger bottom end. Depending on the race track, use 1 or 2mm shim.

the 450 decals would be worth it, if just one v-twin guy rips apart his quad thinking he must have a dirty clutch because he was thrashed by a 450 single! Firefighterjosh, no coop mod? i figured that would be on your list for "off the line" grunt.

Good to see you added the fuel injector. Sounds like an awesome motor! I second the Coop's mod tho. What's your top speed in a race? With just shims you'd get around 55-57 mph. With the fixed sheave mod you still have the same bottom end, but with a top speed of around 74-75mph!

The reason I have not done a coop mod is because they never came in to the dealer after 2 weeks I told them I didn't want them anymore since I already had my clutch back together.

I am not real familar with these type clutch systems. for example this is why.

When I had my banshee I geared it for accleration. After some engine work the gearing was too tight and I would run out of gear before the engine would reach its full potential. So I regeared it for a little more top end and gained accleration.

So what I am afraid of with the coop mod is I will have too much low end gearing and the engine will be wrapping out too high thus not using the power.

I plan on doing some clutch testing. I will deffently add the coop mod to my list of possibilites.

Anyone more help is appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT: My top speed during a race I hit 58MPH once on a all stock machine. I was looking at the sheave mod, looks a little out of my skill level lol. After I get my engine out and shipped I will read on it more.

If anyone can help me figuer out what injector specs I need it would also help.

I need to know what flow rate, how much HP I need it to feed.

Stock flowrate is 32lb/hr Engie I read with his Big bore might do 48lb. I was thinking maybe 50lb? I know nothing about injectors lol. Might have to do some googling lol

Lyle has ordered a 42lb/hr injector and is waiting for it to show up. He'll be testing that and if he finds that it works out he'll be ordering a bunch and stocking them to lower costs. I don't really know much about the sizing either, but I do know that if you go too large it won't idle correctly. I wish I could tell you in technical details why not but I don't understand them reading it so I can't really explain them then! I remember it having something to do with injector open/close time vs. the amount of fuel dumped in and something else that I forgot... Are you going to be snorkeling to make the airbox flow better? I know you have airbox mods but I can't remember what. Mine is a wide open 3x3" hole so that the dirt won't concentrate on the filter. It's a tad open so I have an outerwear as well.

Clever - I almost miss my carb verison quads.....almost

I only have the snorkeled drilled out with more holes for my airbox mod.

This winter I am going to do some airbox mods to the box to flow alot better. Just not sure what yet. I will cover each hole with a outerwear material so its failry water proof. I like FTR's airbox mods.

Edit: Isn't Lyle doing testing for a stock machine? I would think I would need something a little bigger. I am just not sure how much of a jump each Lb is

Lyle's testing is for a machine that has a pipe and airbox mods. Sounds like Lyle's airbox is snorkeled out the side if I remember right. I haven't seen pics but I think it would be similar to Red05Kings for flow.

I wish I knew if the amount of fuel you need for power was the same. The difference between a 32 and 42 lb injector is about 31%.

Stock hp is 48, if it's a linear increase that means a 42 lb injector could support about 63hp at the very least. I just don't know that for a fact. It wouldn't surprise me though if a 42 lb would be enough, but it also wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't. Unless you're on a tight schedule though I think it might be more prudent to wait for Lyle's testing before purchasing an injector that's too big.

I have till febuary so I can wait.

My thinking is if just a pipe and PC3 can make almost 8 HP diffrence then a VDI and pipe should atleast make 11HP. (not sure if the pipe dyno numbers where RWHP or not)

Not sure how much this engine will respond to the mods but I hope to gain 20HP altogether. More the better

i put the pipe on in one piece and it was a %@$#*. i heard guys say to put pipe on first then the silencer. well i didn't. i put it on in one piece. it was extremely difficult that way. the mounts were hard to line up. i'd like to know how yours goes. having removed the plastic should help.

Ideally, you'd be able to get away with the 42lb injector. The problem with going larger on injectors is that as they become bigger, there is more rotating mass and therefore open more slowly(same trigger voltage and current). At a certain point, you reach a point of diminishing return and get a bad idle and throttle response. I'm expecting 50+ rwhp(75chp) out of my setup. Using online calculators for injectors, it always comes out to needing a 48lb injector at 80% duty cycle. Ideally the 42lb could still be used, just at a duty cycle of closer to 90%. The said calculators are a bit of a gimmick, imo because they fail to note how much of the additional power comes from increased compression, as compression power doesn't require any more fuel just more spark advance and higher octane

More compression will also give a bigger draw of air. Typically on a carb engine you would have to jet leaner because of a stronger signal to the carb. Injected motors don't see this, but I would imagine need more fuel due to the increased intake draw. More compression equals more air intake. Works both ways.

Dadd, in high comp pistons are you truly pulling more air or are you simply decreasing the head/cylinder volume?

I'm having a brain fart with my visualization here. I know most of MY compression will be from a shaved head=less volume although this would be an entirely different scenario from adding highcomp piston(the easy and most used way).

I'm unsure here so definately intrigued...

Your right, the actual intake volumn would be the same, I wasn't thinking straight. You will still have a stronger intake pulse, but that may not have any effect on injection.
