I don't know if anybody has posted this, but has anybody removed teh rear sway bar to see if it climbs easier or you have more range of movement in the rear suspension when going over logs or up drops in creeks.

Kingpin, there are some guys on here that run without their sway bar. I'm not sure who. They seem to like it for the riding they do. I don't think it would be good for everyone (myself included). You should have more travel without it.

kingpin,
Welcome to the forum, from what I've read it's more the rock crawlers that have removed the sway bar. I seem to remember they said it made more body roll without for high speed cornering so had to learn to ride different.
Don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall the comments. If you type sway bar into the search box at bottom you might be able to find the original posts on this topic.

I have mine removed, did it shortly after I got my KQ. IMO, they should call that bar the "anti-irs" bar. I also have different shocks that help keep it more steady, less dive.
To try a test run, just unbolt one of the swing-links on one side and secure it to the A-arm with a strap. Then take the nut with you and if you don't like it, just put it back together.
It takes a little time to get use to it removed, but when hitting rough terrain, you will blast right through it much faster.
And for stuff like this it is a lot easier.

IMO, I find the handling to be quite poor w/o the swaybar connected. Bringing the rear end around requires much more effort, understeer in fast sweeping corners becomes a problem. The quad really tilts in corners and sidehills. Other folks like the handling along with the extra articulation it gives. FatTireRacer has some flex shots w/o the bar on his page.... http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/fattireracer/my_photos
Edit, FTR beat me to it.
The only way to tell if it is for you, try disconnecting one end link of the bar, zip tie the link up out of the way and go for a ride.

Maybe you could make yourself a sway bar link you could unpin like they have for Jeeps. Pull the pin in the rocks, replace the pin for the trails?

Phil, Now that would be a great idea if possible. That could come in handy for some obstacles on the trail and then put it back together for the trail ridding. I would have no clue how to do it without looking at it for a few hours/days but i would be interested if someone comes up with how it should be done.
Thanks
David

Thanks for the input, removed the sway bar today and took it out fo r a try.
Love it, when thru some pretty deep holes that were offset. Handled like a champ and never had a tire com off the ground.

Guys what about taking jumps with the swaybar disconnected? Are the tires going to fold to far under?

A anti swaybar disconnect would be a great idea.
I've seen it on Jeeps and it works real slick. I can't belive a aftermarket company don't make them already.

JJJ, when hitting jumps straight on, the swaybar does nothing to limit wheel travel, the shocks have that job. But when landing a little crooked the swaybar will load-up on the one side, then try to throw you off the other way. I found when going straight down a trail with whoops that were uneven, the swaybar would throw me side to side, out of controll. With it removed, I could go much faster, with less side to side feedback. The only time I miss it, is when cornering on smooth, flat corners that don't have a lip or berm to hook on. But if the corner has bumps with a berm or lip, I can go faster without the swaybar. It is also much harder to do dounuts and kick the rear out on corners with the swaybar removed.
This is not for everbody. If you ride with a load on the racks, or ride double, or into MX style riding, this might not be for you.
If you are not in a big hurry, do a lot of rocky, rooted, rutted trails, this is smoothest way to go.
I have thought about a quick-disconect, but I do so much of the rough stuff, I would hardly use it. Or I would be getting on and off my quad consantly to change it. Remember, the jeep guys only reconect when going back on the road.
Here is another pic of how much articulation I get with my set-up.

FTR,
Thanks for the input, I was worried that the tires would fold to far under without the swaybar. I might have to give this a try one of these days.
