I just went out to drive my King today and found a large puddle of diff fluid under the front diff.n The leak is coming from the driveshaft seal where it enters the front differential. I got the drivehaft out ok, but now i'm struggling to get the input shaft off (the seal is right behind the input shaft). How is it held in? My guess is some sort of internal clip like the cv axles but i've tried hitting it pretty hard on the lip to pop it out but it doesn't budge. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

I've got the same problem, only it's the rear drive shaft seal. I haven't messed with it yet.

Don't how to fix it properly, but someone recommended automatic transmission sealer. I used it on my step-daughters grizzly and it took a week to work, but it did work and hasn't leaked for about 6 months now. I used a syringe and added about 30cc of the sealer and then topped of the fluid. I went back and topped it off twice until the leak stopped.

I am experiencing the same problem. Was wondering if someone can describe how to get to the front seal and best way to pull it.

i suppose what i am looking to find out is does the front diff need to be opened up to access the snap ring which holds the front drive shaft in. then access the oil seal? or is there a way to get at that seal without pulling the front diff apart?

It looks like the dust cover slides off, then you remove the seal.

The driveshaft just "pops out" with a hard pull. The seal is as shown in the above post. Is that what you needed?

Which seal, the one in the dif or the one on the engine side. Your first post said it was the dif. If you are having trouble getting the shaft out, then you probably have to slide the dif forward to remove it. I don't have the manual at work but I can check it out tonight or someone else who has done it may answer.

I would think you have to unbolt the dif and move it forward.

I know this is an old thread...
I just wanted to add a warning here for anyone about to tackle this seal.

The stamped steal "dust cover" or "seal cap" is not sold separately from the input shaft, which costs $260 Cdn.

Don't be like me and get to aggressive taking this off. If I had a time machine, I would take it off by putting some tension on it with a puller then tap around the edges with a small hammer.

Just my

Hi Steveb

Are you talking about #8 in the picture? Or something else?

Hi,
Yes #8 is the one. #3 in Dr. Z's pic is what I had damaged by prying.

I was able to salvage it by hammering out the imperfections, wet stone and emery cloth.
