Hello everyone, I have been reading over all the post on the king quad because I am thinking seriously about buying one. Several things concern me as it looks like alot of people have trouble with these machines. I do not want to modify it except for tires and rims and I read about overheating, steering issues, hard starting, filtering issues etc. Can any of you king quad owners shed some light on what to expect for us that do not plan on modifying our machines other than tires and wheels. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I will probably get beat up for saying this here but....
If you are not planning on doing any mods except for tires and wheels then
a grizzly would be a beter choice than a king quad.

Welcome to the Forum!

If you are planning on a power steering unit the steering wont be an issue....the air filter is better now with the new models....a few guys have still had trouble....i put 300 miles on my stock filter and had no issues....i replaced it when it was dirty...most of the posts you see on here with troubles are guys with mods to their machines....the hard starts are as simple as changing out the spark plug if you live in a cold climate....they start just fine in moderate temperatures....every machine will have some guys that have trouble with them....also this website discusses the kingquads more than any other....thats why there are so many threads regarding it.

Oh man...we have a traitor among us!!!

I have seen on here that in stock trim the grizzly has a little more low end grunt than the kings due in stock trim.

i asked the EXACT SAME QUESTION in march before i bought mine. You have to realize all machines have issues....and if you take care of it then it will take care of you. Mine has be a very good machine thus far and only had issues when i abused her or caused the problem. Personally if you dont get power hungry and only want normal sized trail tires and wheels then i would think as long as you maintain your bike then it will last a long time. I know this.....if i didnt own a suzuki then the only other bike i would own would be a honda foreman and thats only because i put my last one through total Helll and it just kept comming back for more! As for the issues you listed...change the air filter to a UNI or TwinAir and your set (stock sucks on every bike anyway and my dealer even told me to upgrade). The steering isnt really an issue for me, im a big guy and dont ride to fast or without my hands on the bars so it does just fine. If it worries ya then do the Demijohn mod or put a steering stabilizer on it your set(this is my next upgrade btw) as far as not starting ive never had this issue. Mine cranks and starts everytime i hit the button. GOod luck on ur decision.

Thanks for the quick replies. I do not want to get anything started but I have had several honda's going back to the big red three wheeler and all have been bullet proof but they were all kinda boring to ride if you know what I mean. I like the features the king offers as opposed to honda's and like the looks of the king ALOT more than the griz. I do not mind replacing the air filter with a twin air or any other brand that filters better. I just want it to be dependable.

I came off a rancher 420 to the KQ 750! If you dont plan to mod it....it will be dependable for you...there are a few guys with over 4,000 miles on their kings....there is also one with over 28,000 miles....no its not a typo!!

Welcome to the forum man!

Im actually considering buying another King Quad. A 08 750 within a year or so.

You will love the King. Just some tires and wheels, and a aftermarket air filter, like Twin Air, or UNI or K&N, and your ready to hit the trails!

oh i will agree my honda was a very boring 40mph top's no frills quad. But it does what its intended to do and it does it very well. For the hunter, worker, farmer, or as an all around utility machine there is none better. But I like you got the King for 2 reasons. 1ST was the name. second was the options. From the day the brought them back out in 04 ive wanted one. So i finally bought it and with the exception of having to replace a couple axels due to boot failure its been a trouble free 8 months.

My 750axi (2009) is a year old in October. The only issue I had was a poorly prepped battery. Once I prepped the new battery myself, and applied some dielectric grease, it has been fantastic. My wifes 450axi (2008) was also bought at the same time, hers has had zero issues as well.

Keep in mind we are trail riders. We don't go mudding, jump hills, attempt to boat with, or otherwise tear-up our quads.

I only added the mods in my signature. I don't plan on doing any other mods at all. I think the machine in its stock form is plenty. As always the more you mod, the more stress you put on the OEM components and drivetrain thus affecting longevity. Furthermore, the amount you abuse the machine is proportional to its reliability. With a reliable ATV such as the Kingquad one of the top 3 manufacturers IMO, it should last a long time...

I absolutely love my King Quad. Would buy another one in a second. I have not done the steering mods but do not personally feel it is a problem. Probably would not have even noticed anything at all had I not read about it. I would not keep the stock filter on any machine. Installed a Twin Air on mine. You won't go wrong with a king!

I experiment with mods a lot on mine and have had some experiments fail, but other than that nothing has broken on its own. As long as you keep the maintenance up, you won't have any problems. I have 5000 miles and 580+ hours on mine and so far nothing has gone wrong with it that could not have been prevented.

I have a 09 750 King Quad and for me, the steering is treacherous, I mean dangerously bad.
I hear some doing mods and adding dampers, and I shall do that too, but for me, when I spend $12000.00 on a quad I shouldn't have to fork out another couple hundred to make the thing safe to drive.
Other than that, the bike works great. Smooth ride, decent power. It's just the steering thing.

Spikeojim, if you are willing to take off your upper front A-arms and ship them to me in B.C. I'll fix that for you, and it won't cost hundreds of dollars, and it's completely and easily reversible (at no cost and can be done by yourself in mere minutes) if you decide for some reason I can't imagine, that you don't want the caster fix anymore and want it back to stock spec.

A couple of things. 1st I love my KQ, it runs great and I havent had any problems with it at all. 2nd the steering is not bad for me, or my wife. if your flying down the road or trail at unreasonable speeds on any bike then yeah watch out but if your safe and now how to ride then you will be perfectly fine. I dont plan on modding y bike except to snorkel it out and thats all, but thats just because I like to go thru water and mud. How big of rims and tires do you want to go, it depends on what you are going to use it for and go thru.

Well after alot of consideration I have decided to get the King. I will pick it up this week. I hope the steering issue will not be a problem with me as I will be staying with 25" tires and something like the swamp lites. I appreciate all the replies and will stay in touch and let yall know what I think about it.
