Washington, D.C. (2/14/2009) - The sport of off-highway recreation is seriously threatened by recent legislation that imposes strict lead content guidelines on children's everyday toys. The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) has effectively banned the sale of youth off-highway vehicles (OHVs).
You can do something right now to help reverse the potentially devastating effect this could have on the sport of OHV recreation. Virtually every motorcycle/ATV industry and advocacy group in the country is currently on board in this undertaking, including the NOHVCC.

Americans for Responsible Recreation Access (ARRA) is currently hosting a special webpage where all OHV enthusiasts can go to contact their representatives to let them know how they feel about this proposed rule as it stands. Making your voice heard from the ARRA webpage is incredibly easy- please help today!

Take action with ARRA now

The way I understand it, It's already Done

My dealer can't even sell parts for the ones already sold.

Yes, the law became active last week. The letter is to ask congress for exclusions to the new law to eliminate this issue.

Sorry, didn't see the post in the Kids section so maybe we can consoidate them both.

I think leave it in both as it is an important issue. More views the better

it was my understanding that they will still be sold here once that get the lead levels down under the new guide lines. Maybe if more of these where made in the US this wouldn't be a probelm to begin with.

I just sent letters to all my reps and to the cpsc through the AMA website. Government is so stupid sometimes(most times actually!).

Looks like some of the manufacturers found a way to skirt the law.

"American Suzuki Announces New Age Limit for LTZ90 Quad Sport
Youth ATVs & Motorcycles Age Limits revised for 13+ Years Old

Suzuki LTZ90 QuadSport age limit raised to over 12 years of age, so new units & parts will be available at dealers in the near future.

Brea, CA (3/13/2009) - Suzuki recently announced that it is once again able to start selling the 90cc QuadSport youth ATV’s, youth ATV parts, along with 125cc dirt bikes and RM85L dirtbikes that were currently banned under the CPSC’s Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Suzuki, along with several other manufacturers, has decided to raise the recommended age limit on their youth sized products, in order to avoid the costly and time consuming testing that would be required of all their machines and parts destined for the 12 years and under crowd, and get their products back on the showroom floor.

“We simply did what other manufacturers are doing by raising the age limit. Several of our youth models and parts are once again available to the consumer and we are also working on being able to have other models available soon,” said Suzuki’s Gabe Castillo.

Suzuki will release more information regarding the availability of other youth ATV’s and dirtbikes as they become available to the consumer once again.
