EHS Brute Force Airbox Lid review

by Brute Man Kelley, 2008-11-29

I want to introduce to Brute Force owners an innovative product that has truly made a difference on my ATV. I have been running the EHS (www.ehsracing.com) airbox lid on my Kawasaki Brute Force 750 for about 6 months. I closed the stock intake opening, and as a result steam, water, and mud never gets in my airbox when riding through puddles and crossing streams. My engine now gets all it's air through the EHS lid. It is available with a cover guard for protection from sticks, limbs, etc. that may puncture the outerwear. I used to have snorkles on my Brute Force, but I like this better for normal trail riding. Snorkles are still better for riding in the deep water, because you cannot ride where water touches the EHS lid and you can run snorkles higher. The EHS lid has proven itself durable over the miles that I have used it, and no water has gotten in while riding in rain. It also helps keep dust out of the filter area when riding in dry dusty conditions. You will have to jet if you use this lid, but if you use snorkles you do too. Snorkles you jet down because of restricted air flow, with this EHS lid you will jet up gaining more power. I drag race and this lid works really good for that. The EHS allows cooler air to feed the engine instead of hot air trapped under the plastic, which helps performance.

EHS also has a tuner available for the 08 fuel injected Brute Force. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or Eric at www.ehsracing.com. Eric is super nice guy and he does the research & developement. They have a dyno there and he talks to people that want the products to find out what they need or want before trying to develope it. They offer many products to make our atv's better for what we want them to do. Get in touch with him and tell him I sent you and he will give you a better price.

BMK can you show a pix of the lid from inside of the lid?

I am going to add while doing the engine rebuild. I am going to leave the stock opening alone as I don't ride in deep water much (no problems yet anyway). What is your best guess on jets with this mod and stock exhaust?

I have the same lid and I completely agree with BMK I love mine no more splash no more steam nothing but a dry box. Also EHS just came out with a new lid that you don't have to rejet at all its diffrent its all blocked off except for the top towards the back I think he calls it the mud lid. both great products. I would get another before doing snorkles anyday but I don't submerge my bike like some guys do in the mud and water. I had my machine dyno'd I actually gained 1 RWHP on Vforcjohn's dyno with the lid.I think they look awesome as well here is a pic of mine

BMK,does that pre-filter catch alot of dust, before it gets to the filter? In the summer we run alot of the exempt r/r tracks and man it's dusty, looks like a good set up for woods warrior.whats nice about this you won't ever get a pressurized airbox hickup.

Yes it does. There is nothing covering the stock opening. This is much better for dry dusty conditions.

Jetting info I have found for starting point and both lids covered and open
for aftermarket exhaust

Slip-on 175/178, 1 shim .020, 40 pilots, 1.5 coils cut on spring
Aftermarket exhaust = header 182/182 to 185/185 same as above possible 42
pilots
Aftermarket unequal same but 180/182

All approx for starting point but will get you very very close.

Will update on new cover soon on jetting

This is the jetting info Eric has from dyno #'s

How are these for noise? I've been thinking this is exactly what I need for my sort of riding....but I wonder about the increase in noise by opening up the top of the air box right in your face like that. Is it annoying at all?

Hows does it work on the FI 750 w/no other mods, stock set-up.

I believe it works good on stock FI system. Contact Eric at EHS thru the linl at the top. I took him a friends 08 BF750 FI down for the proto-type on the lid & tuner. He has dyno #'s on all the test combo's.

08 BF here too. Question, you guys mentioned plugging the "factory intake" and using the lid exclusively.... does this include the F/I model as well?

I do cross the occasional river, and mostly it's the back end of the bike that sinks, so this should work well, my guess is the MUD LID would be a better choice since my riding is coal, mud, rivers, and such...

Make sense?

MGJ

PS: Nice work too, looks good!

Southwest with a stock brute and the front opening plugged you should be ok with no tuner but if you leave the front open it will hurt your top end performance you really need a tuner to compliment it. When adding a exhaust and the lid a tuner is a must. We do have a tuner available also. If you emailed us you should have gotten a return email if you didnt im sorry i would be lying if i said every email got answered we try really hard to answer them all but sometimes i will say i will answer that after the next phone call or service appointment and they never get replied to. Busy is an understatment if anybody needs answers quickly 866-997-2345 is always an option.

any other questions let us know Thanks
