What do you guys do to clean your spark arrestor? I sure hope its worth it because one of the bolts holding it in would not come out and I think i busted off whatever was holding it internally. I guess ill have a project for tommorow.

Thanks

I'd just spray it down with some brake cleaner or some carb cleaner. Its just a wire mesh. Shouldn't hurt nothing.

Buddy of mine made another tip for his and it still has a spark arrestor in it. Increased his power a little, not much and it sounds better.

I just wire brushed it after about 1800 km. It all came apart easy and was very clean anyways. I put antiseize on all the bolts when i put it back together.

Got my arrestor out after cutting the head off of the old bolt and then tapping it through the hole with a punch and a hammer. I think the bolt got stripped somehow half way through removal. Anyways its out and I retapped the threads to american (1/4") so I can acctually use a real bolts (with anti-seeze) and not this allen-wrech junk.

Anyways, my arrestor was 90% blocked with mud. It took me a good hour with a wire brush to get it all knocked out, I also sprayed it with brake cleaner to be sure it was nice and clean. She sounds pretty now, have not drove it yet but im guessing ive regained some power. I just wonder how long its been blocked like that.....

I think if they stay pretty clean if you keep the pipe out of the mud. If you bury the pipe in muddy soupy water, it will plug the spark arrestor up pretty quick.

More than likely by the end of the day Ill have it buried and it will be packed full again haha, but thats what the king is for!!!

Unless you're a mud bogger, there is seldom reason to clean the spark arrestor on an engine that runs right.......I inspected mine for the 1st time when I did the 2nd major service in mine at 1199 miles(1200 miles service) and it was just to assure that there was no carbon to brush off of it. Apply copper anti seize compound on bolts, and it will be much easier taking it off next time. Maintenance is everything for a happy long lasting vehicle.

I wire wheel mine as well (on my old stock pipe and on my HMF now). Doesn't get too dirty but its always good to keep em clean!
