Engine - Oil - Amsoil is the best ATV oil to use - where to get itby nyroc, 2005-02-23Amsoil ATV motor oil is by far better than most oils you can use in your motorcycle. All oils are not created equal, and most owners of motorcycle engines that are under ridden hard under a lot of stress use amsoil. Tests also show amsoil's superior lubrication properties. Mobil 1 Motorcycle oil has tested to be almost as good, but I found it to be more expensive. Go ahead and follow the link below and order a case. Use the 0w40, 10w40 or whatever your viscosity requirements are in the "Atv Motor Oil" link. The filter for most quads is the smf-103 (you may need to check to be sure). Note: Automotive oils may have friction reducers that will cause your clutch to slip (auto shift clutch, manual clutch, Kawasaki differential lock). Note: Automotive oils do not have the durability to hold up in a transmission as well as motorcycle oils and syntehtics. An automotive synthetic might be OK in the engine of many quads, but I prefer to put the good stuff in mine since the ATV only holds 2 quarts. Note: Don't abuse your differential. They hold only a small amount of oil, and the oil breaks down fast and gets full of shavings. Change it often and only use synthetic. Our Amoil sponsor: http://www.synthetic-oil.com. Additionally, I found that Harley shops and motorcycle performance shops are likely to carry it. I went to Clemmons motorcycle (888-572-9253) in clemmons, NC, and was able to pick up half a case for less money than online. They did not stock 0w40 because they carry motorcycles that use 20w50, but they ordered it and had it the very next day. You may want to check your phone book and look for a cycle shop even if they don't have ATVs. Don't waste money on OEM oils, amsoil is best. |
