Clutch mod Coop45 's fixed plate mod - 700/750by Dr Z, 2008-03-28This is Coop45's fixed plate mod. Coop45's shim mod gives low end response at the expense of top speed. Bending the tips of the fixed plate inward will give back top speed that the shim mod takes out. This is accomplished by pushing the movable sheave as close together as the stock clutch does without the shim mod. Bending the tip in 2mm will exactly cancel out the top speed loss that the 2mm shims incur. You may need to adjust the weight of the rollers to get maximum top speed. If you can not hit the rev limiter, you need to lighten the roller weights until you just barely hit it. Here is how to modify the fixed plate. Cut down the length of a hacksaw blade into the fixed plate. Next, bend the end inward 2mm. Tack weld the end on the outside of the plate for strength. Radius the inside edge of the lip of the plate with a file or the rollers will get cuts on them from the sharp edge. ![]() Here is where to radius the edge to prevent it from marking up the rollers. ![]() Here is another method to get top speed back from the shim mod. The ramps are welded to the fixed plate. This picture was posted by tipotasse ![]() Here is one that blackmagic had made for him. ![]() |
